DenyConformity.com Redesign Journal, Part 1

Series: DenyConformity.com Redesign Journal

I started this little website in August, 2005. My first post on the new site was actually on September 11, which I always think is kind of weird.

Anyway, DenyConformity.com will be 6 years old this August, then. Six years old. It's cool that something I've made is still going after six long years. This is only my 266th post, which comes to only 44 posts a year (minus the ones I made back in '04 / '05 when this was just a page on my Purdue-hosted web space). I hope to post a lot more in the next six years. I want DenyConformity.com to be a place where people can be entertained, and that means I will have to start posting higher-quality material much more regularly. Also, I need to get around to doing some of the things I promised a long time ago.

This old bird's been through a lot, and this clunky old design is sure showing its age. Aside from the numerous bugs and problems with my decrepit old code, it's pretty . . . well, ugly.

One of the many bugs on the site.

So it's time for a refresh. I've been working hard the last few weeks to put together an all-new layout for DenyConformity.com. I know I've said that before, but I'm really dedicated to doing it right this time.

When I say "all-new," I mean it. It's going to be like nothing else on the Web. I'm sure some people will hate it, and it will not be the most user-friendly site out there. However, that's not what DenyConformity.com is about. I built this site, six years ago, as a place for me to experiment. I can experiment with writing; I can experiment with ideas; I can experiment with design. Also, since the site doesn't get many users a month, it's not like I really have much to lose.

So I’ll document my progress rebuilding this place from the ground up, just in case anybody out there is interested in the process, or in case somebody sees the new site and screams, "what?!" Think of it as the audio commentary track for the Internet.
